Why Jill exists
Oil & gas has its own language. A single paragraph of a lease or a PPM can bounce between geology, land, tax, reservoir engineering, and securities law — five fields, five vocabularies, usually five different specialists. Most people reading those documents aren't trying to become five specialists. They just want to understand what they're looking at well enough to ask the right next question.
That's the gap Jill is built for. Not a replacement for a geologist, attorney, or advisor — a translator. Somewhere you can ask a question at 10pm on a Tuesday and get an answer that meets you where you are.
Who's behind it
Jill was built and is operated by Tanner Bowersox — a South Texas geologist and independent oilman who has worked conventional Gulf Coast plays since 2013. He studied geology at Whitman College and has spent his career doing the work the old-school way: hand-drawn structure maps, seismic interpretation, lease acquisition, and land work handled in-house before engineering is ever contracted out.
That background is why Jill exists. Tanner kept running into the same problem — the moment a deal touched legal, tax, or engineering, the conversation forked into specialties that didn't talk to each other. The geologist didn't explain the JOA. The attorney didn't walk through the decline curve. Nobody connected the subsurface to the K-1. Jill is the tool he wished he'd had earlier: one place where all five disciplines meet in plain English.
Tanner separately owns Bowersox Exploration, LLC — an independent Texas oil & gas business that holds his private working interests. Lex AI, LLC is a separate entity with its own infrastructure, data, and books. That separation is intentional: Jill's answers shouldn't bend to the commercial interests of any one operator — including its founder's.
In practice, that means:
- Jill does not promote, recommend, or endorse any specific oil & gas deal, operator, sponsor, or program — including any affiliated with its founder.
- Jill runs on its own infrastructure, its own database, and its own subscriber records. It does not share customer data with Bowersox Exploration, LLC or any related business.
- If Jill is ever asked about Bowersox Exploration, LLC, it answers the same way it would answer about any other independent operator — factually, without marketing.
What Jill is, and isn't
Jill is a software product: a large language model tuned with oil & gas context and guardrails, accessible through a chat window. It's good at translating jargon, explaining mechanics, walking through documents, and helping you frame a question you weren't sure how to ask.
It is not — and cannot be — a licensed professional. Jill is not a registered broker-dealer or investment adviser, not a law firm, not a CPA, and not a fiduciary of any kind. It does not know your specific financial, tax, or legal situation. It does not give personalized investment, legal, or tax advice. When the answer to your question depends on your circumstances, the honest answer is "talk to an advisor who knows you" — and Jill will say so.
